Hoppin' Frog has treated me well thus far. I haven't had half the beers in their portfolio yet but I've really liked what I've had. Their Wee Heavy was great and B.O.R.I.S. was amazing. Oak aged B.O.R.I.S. really sealed the deal though. That's a great beer and it made me want to go pick up the rest of their line up. Which is how I came across this bottle of Frog's Hollow Double Pumpkin. Pumpkin Ales aren't my favorite style, they're more of a once a year fling between all the Märzens and Christmas beers. They can be really hit or miss so I'm anxious to see what Hoppin' Frog has done. I'm also intrigued by that DOUBLE Pumpkin name. Twice as much of one thing means it's better, right?
Oh Hoppin' Frog, how did I ever live without you? It's only been 8 months or so since you started distributing here but it seems like we've known each other forever. Your Wee Heavy was a surprise and your B.O.R.I.S. exceeded expectations. I've only had a few of Hoppin' Frog's beer but they have been nothing less than stellar. Tonight I've opened a bottle of Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S., an Oatmeal Imperial Stout that was aged in Whiskey barrels. Having had the regular B.O.R.I.S. I knew roughly what to expect, and I was really excited to open this beer up.
This bomber of Hoppin' Frog Off Kilter Wee Heavy has been in my beer fridge for longer than I care to recall. It's probably been at least eight months... but, being 8.2% alcohol, I was optimistic that it'd aged gracefully. I'd honestly forgotten about this beer, as it was stored behind a couple of Hale's Ales bombers I was in no hurry to drink. Thankfully, I did a little reshuffling of the fridge today and decided to free up a little extra room by saying Hello Goodbye to this Off Kilter Wee Heavy.
